Stephanie's Suggestions #13

Hey Anne,

Yes, you can put my emails on the blog post for the website. No name changes are necessary. Thank you for your kind words. I enjoy sharing my thoughts of the games with you. For Beasts of Balance, I ordered directly from their website. They were doing a New Year's sale. Like you said, amazon has some of their products but not all. If Patrick is competitive, you might want to pick up the battle pack. Vincent will play co-op most of the time; however, since we got the unicorn creature, he loves battle. The unicorn has rainbow poop in the battle mode. Apparently, that is all I needed to tell him to see if he was interested in it. I also found it interesting that there were several used copies of the game on ebay. It was cheaper to buy it new with the expansions (since we wanted them too) than to pick it used.

Here are some recommendations:

palm island and palm laboratory by portal dragon games- palm island (1-2 player game) and palm laboratory (1 player game) are played the same way with different themes. These are excellent games you can play in the palm of your hand. It has different challenges and objectives that are diverse and interesting. For solo play as well as for travel, these are a gem! I don't know how it plays with 2 players. The card components are different due to the plastic (possibly waterproof, not sure) nature of them. I feel better about taking them camping thanks to this characteristic. I ordered directly from the website since the amazon shop has no english option. Here is a video for palm laboratory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LHKbn7uehQ. Odin by helvetiq- Some helevtiq games don't interest me, this one I wasn't sure about but for $12.99, I figured it was worth the risk. It was! We played this with 3 people and had a blast. Andrew said "It would be a great travel game." Which were my thoughts exactly. For 2 player games, you remove 2 suits of colors. It is a fantastic small game! There is a very "little that" element here (at least it was when we played). If someone gets a bad hand, it could feel unfair. However, that is the element of luck. Here is a playthrough and rule video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=906Xs0gafz4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcGDfg7PgUs. Here is the game on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Helvetiq-Odin-Card-Game-Viking-Themed/dp/B0CRRV27SG/ref=sr_1_2?crid=TW1QPW6V7P4X&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.998-L0kVVQoab2ndQjcyN9DeBThX5PbbJRxpK8WM4FRYMpr0sZn35ia3ASYM58qJxQL0_QynatcG5tEYVn7DRxCWj-_u5Nehs-7XiF_d-aCX8pl3GS42_k5rKK0N_-YJ545spOC9xGQtwuoDy8VooEI91zSV5FleROR0eFoVIPvABLKlm5m3jztoAD-XXMV_s4skbIh8JbO42lmr2EVjr2U3DE5YvomLIzTqhxmp7IiS09JcumRNy7B55qmgSEUyC70vdITb1PtW8rNkdqncVhK_5DK-OW-fSDs07mXA9W4.CYL0Hl1vQvWDkMgts6Vl67QOxHAgDV9TYHTzTOJekA8&dib_tag=se&keywords=odin+game&qid=1711479966&sprefix=odin+game%2Caps%2C121&sr=8-2

Unlocked! Kids- We picked this up for Vincent at the local game store. I owe several copies of Unlocked! but we haven't played them as a family yet. The kid version is awesome because it does not need a screen. The problem I foresee with this is the replay value. Maybe if you shared this game with other gamer families or were able to sale it online after you were done with it, then you wouldn't spend as much money for a one time game (and maybe recoup some of the cost). I like how older kids could help younger kids, as well as how there is a solutions guide in case you need it. There are also several "cases" per setting. It makes it 6 games in one box versus just 3 games in one box, I think. Here is a video on the game play. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_Kx0RetIt8. Here is the game on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Space-Cow-Players-Average-Playtime/dp/B09NMNLNCS/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1RZGGT0CUS5VA&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.gOnvyW7WS3vc4JpzABj5Cw7JzFmlpzL-Be4gOJxJ3jVdlJvX_7MY9JmDUdA6sWF5YsVF_VeL57JFmtDroXQwvmNUD7dUUyqMkO52nnT9-7cNM4wBKgJ73EJQBIJFYBzN2BoCmHZ664XW1b93WmtUIK0v6GmLwbvwfk9GilpdbDcassmMmidRYmNixScYHwhLnpgc1gjsUT12ETBjpxuenfKitprAEHRgYNmcL6LOIHGwwegU4ElUBddKQDs1C55KLpHTBcBR3IEW36gFNcbOjRJLKdvCzG2xW_5vNWx7pk8.xQFOW_2tARcHw9SOumuh62cSr6SIcblMhvYMEXL2eiM&dib_tag=se&keywords=unlocked%21+kids+game&qid=1711479885&sprefix=unlocked+kids+game%2Caps%2C281&sr=8-5

Villainous star wars- Andrew has a definite theme when it comes to purchasing board games. Surprise, it's Star Wars! When deciding between Villainous and Unlocked!, he went with Villainous because it doesn't need a screen. He is concerned about what happens when the device may be too old for the app or if the app doesn't get updated. The replay value on this game is very high as well versus the possible one time play with the Unlocked! game. Vincent hasn't played this yet but I can see how kids could enjoy this one once they understand the rules. We don't owe Unmatched! but in some ways it feels similar due to the way you can play characters from different boxes(expansions) against each other. If you got into the disney version or marvel version of the game, there are lots of options as well (although the disney version has a ton of expansion packs compared to Star Wars and Marvel). This video is a great explanation of the rules.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmppgKarncY&t=772s. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Stephanie
