Quick Take: Cooperative game that can be played with a wide age range of kids. Great for older and younger siblings to play together as long as a game smashing toddler is not present. Try to get the owls home to the nest before the sun comes up, that’s basically all you have to know to play this game. I really like the strategy required to play this, kids can just play their favorite colors and muddle through okay if they're young but older kids can employ the "leapfrog" strategy this game is based on and it makes it more interesting. We had friends over the other weekend and I took about thirty seconds to explain this game to two 10 year old girls who played it with a 6 year old girl and they all had a blast. It is also great that this has a non scary losing feature.
How to Play: You win the game by getting all the owls home before the sun comes up. Each person is dealt three cards that face up and they are either color cards or a sun card. Sun cards must be played immediately (one per turn if you have multiple) and they make the sun move across the sky. Color cards are played and you pick an owl to move to whatever color card has been played. The fun part of the game is that owls can’t share the same space so if you play a bunch of the same color in a row then the owls can basically leapfrog over each other and get to the nest very quickly. If you get them all into the nest before too many sun cards have been played and the sun comes up, you win!
Variations: What makes this game such a great pick is the manner in which you can adjust how challenging it is. Pick as few as three owls to use for the game if your child just wants to play their favorite colors and doesn't care about the leapfrog strategy of the game. Pick as many as six owls if your child is really into the strategy and wants a challenge.
