Quick Take: Game for the person who misses playing two hour games like Munchkin and want to play a highly involved game in a short amount of time. Be the first to slay three monsters or collect a certain amount of heroes to win. The game is great, it seems complicated at first but there are just a few basic game rules you need to know in order to get going and then there are so many unique cards and abilities that the game play always feels fresh and interesting. And there are expansion packs if you just can't get enough. That said, this is not a relaxing game to play. You have to be "on" the whole time you play and speed reading and rapid decision making are required if you don't actually want to be sitting there for an hour playing this game.
How to Play: Your goal is to be the first to slay three monster cards or assemble a full party with six different classes. You start with a party leader card which does not count as a hero, but does count as a fulfilling a party class. Each player is dealt five cards to start. On each turn you can take three actions. Drawing a card, playing a card, or rolling the dice to use a hero card power all count as one action. Rolling to try to slay a monster takes two actions. Discarding your hand of cards and drawing a new hand of five cards counts as your entire three actions. There are specialty cards like item cards you can play on your heroes, magic cards, modifier cards which can be used to adjust roll values, and challenge cards. Variations: If you want the same kind of game play but in a speedy, cooperative format I'd recommend 5-Minute Dungeon. It's fantastic.
